[ Film Location Permit Application ]

A Film Location Permit shall be issued for all location filming that takes place in the City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo, Township of Wellesley, Township of Wilmot, and Township of Woolwich, except for current affairs and newscasts or any other television production or television commercial that takes place in a studio owned and operated by a television station. Film Location Permits are free of charge and are co-ordinated through FilmKW for issuance by the appropriate municipality.

Applicants must complete a Film Location Permit Application for each general location where filming will take place. This application is to be faxed to the number indicated on the form.

The local municipality shall issue Film Location Permits for the following projects:

  • Feature Films
  • Television Films
  • Television Network Programs/Series
  • Television Commercials (commercial, government, non-profit)
  • Documentaries
  • Educational Films
  • Music Videos
  • Other projects as approved by Council

The local municipalities are not obliged to issue film location permits for:

  • Projects that break Municipal By-laws, Provincial or Federal Laws
  • Adult Sex Films
  • Projects that are distasteful to the general public or are socially sensitive

A completed copy of the form found in this guide may be faxed to FilmKW for processing.

Applications will be reviewed within 48 hours whenever possible.
